Get Involved

Compassion recognises that volunteers offer a highly valuable contribution to the work of the organisation and their importance in being able to respond to and meet the needs of those women, children, young people and men who are or have experienced domestic abuse and violence.

Our volunteers fall into two different types:

Short term volunteers – who undertake one off opportunities or volunteer occasionally perhaps once or twice a year.

Part time volunteers – who undertake regular opportunities to volunteer on an ongoing basis, giving a few hours each week/month over a sustained period of time.

We look to recruit volunteers who match the needs of Compassion, our selection process is based on the skills and interest of the volunteer and the current needs of the organisation.

We ask all volunteers to complete an application form and then attend an informal interview – where we can discuss with you the opportunities available and if volunteering with Compassion will be beneficial to you.

We ask that anyone that has received a service from Compassion – has a six month break before becoming a Compassion volunteer.

We undertake DBS checks, take up references to ensure that all volunteers are suitable to volunteer with us.

Training and Support
We ask that all our volunteers undertake a full range of safeguarding training, domestic abuse and violence training and additional training that assists them in providing a quality service to everyone.

We offer regular volunteer meetings and individual supervision to ensure all volunteers are supported.

The safety and well being of the women, children, young people and men that we support is our highest priority.

Our volunteers arranged for our fabulous tree at the Sudbury Christmas Tree Festival 2017 – A Big Thank You.
